Don't want to be a business coach? 3 Things You Must Master
Last week we talked about how every business is capable of making money and not just B2Bs. This week I am going to spend more time digging deeper into this concept. Why is it that so many business owners struggle to make real progress in their business? If you are selling services that have nothing to do with business, how do you actually make money? Where do you start?
Most B2C businesses are only at a disadvantage because they don’t have the right training. It’s frustrating to try all of the tips and strategies and feel like they don’t work. It’s not your imagination, most don’t actually work. That’s because most of the popular business strategies were built by and for other business owners.
I’ll give you the 3 things to focus on when it comes to building your brand effectively and making really good money.
1. In-Depth Target Market Training
Almost ALL B2Cs have target market problems. Why? Because most businesses source their clients from the communities they use to get business advice. Look at your friends list. Is it just people in your classes? I know that if you are a B2C, your first priority is sales but sales training only works when you are in the room with the right people. Are you?
Target marketing makes or breaks B2C and it’s SO important to go deeper than just buying habits and characteristics. How does the customer think? What are her problems? What language does she use? I call this the Client Mindreading Profile and teach it a lot in my class, HBA because it’s such a great tool, especially for B2C rockstars.
2. Brand Positioning
B2B businesses benefit from an obvious “value” advantage. It’s really easy for me or another business owner to communicate value but for some other brands, the value conversation is a little more complicated. This is ESPECIALLY true if you are a business owner who has a target market problem and has been in the wrong room trying to sell.
Most business owners think they are being super clear when in actuality, nobody knows what they actually do.
You cannot skip this part. B2Bs can get away with being a little unclear but as a B2C, it never works. If people don’t “get it” they don’t buy.
Think of some of the successful B2C brands you’ve seen around. Most have a really clear and easy-to-understand hook. You “get it” so it’s easy to understand the value.
For Example, Mama Gena’s message is simple and easy: Wanna be a turned on, sexy goddess of a woman who conquers all in her path? You know where to go.
These first 2 topics are ones we go into DEEP detail on in HBA, btw. You can sign up here.
3. Focus On the “Right” Strategies
Webinars, resource-heavy opt-ins, and Facebook challenges don’t work for everyone. In fact, they don’t work for a lot of people but you’d never know it!
Webinars are one of those marketing strategies that get taught to everyone but only really works for a narrow niche of people. Think about your target market. Are webinars even a part of the way they relate to the world? Do they even go on webinars? If they aren’t people trying to build their business, most likely no.
As a B2C, it’s really important to make sure that you are identifying the strategies that will really work for your audience. A lot of this is trial and error. When I work with my clients 1-on-1 or in my classes, we do a lot of experimenting to find the right fit. A lot of the time I’ll be like “Okay, since we know your target market likes _______and _______let’s try __________ .
Whenever you invest, read or spend time on the business, these 3 things should be at the front of your mind, guiding the ship.
Know your target market and the spaces they hang out and GO -- get out of the business groups and actually run your business.
Design a brand that helps the right people find you AND know you are the one instantly, without you having to work yourself into the ground and still not get great results.
Get clear on the strategies that work for YOUR industry so you stop wasting time, energy and money doing things that won’t give you the best results.
What do you think? After looking at this list, what do you feel needs working on? Where do you feel the most confident within this list?
